Bikes for sale!

Bikes for sale!

We are selling our bikes!

The end of our trip is near, and we don’t want the hassle of having to pack the bikes again and pay airline fees to transport them, so we are selling our bikes here. Please note that:

-if the item is still here, it means it is still available. I will be deleting whatever is sold

-I’ve already set low prices to avoid the hassle. Don’t waste your and my time making low-ball offers. If you don’t like the price, it’s fair, just look for something else

-I would rather not send you the bike. The whole point of selling is for me to avoid the packing. If you sort the postage yourself and pay a local bikeshop to do the packing, we can reach an agreement. Priority will be given to buyers collecting in person.

Any questions, more pictures, etc just send me an email or use instagram

1991 Scott Windriver mtb

This is the bike I have been using for the trip. I overhauled it completely before the trip and installed a long list of touring components. Size is a 19.5″, which should suit someone between 1.65m (5ft 5) and 1.85m (6ft). In the pictures it is setup for me at 1.78m.

Front rack (Tubus Cosmo) and bracket for handlebar bag (Klick Fix) are NOT included (although could be purchased separately).

Bike will be available in the second week of December in Ushuaia, Argentina.

Price: 250 USD or 75000 ARS

Specs:

  • Frame: Tange Infinity chromoly steel, Scott original fork
  • Drivetrain: mix of Shimano components, from Deore DX to Alivio. 3×8. Crankset is 42-32-22 and cassette 11-34, giving a low gear of 16.9 gear-inches, great for touring
  • Rear rack Tubus Logo
  • Front wheel: Original Araya RM-20 rim, 32 spokes, Deore DX hub with Schwalbe Mondial 2.0 tire
  • Rear wheel: Andra 40 rim, 36 spokes, Deore LX hub Schwalbe Almotion 2.15 tire. Undestructible
  • Long list of accesories: bottle cages x2, bell, Sigma speedometer, long bar-ends, chainguard, ESGE kickstand, SKS mudguards, big B&M mirror…

Bike is in great shape. It has many paint chips, the normal in a used bike and those early Scott’s had very soft paint. I have changed the chain every 2000 kms so cassette and crankset have still plenty of life left.

Known issues: the saddle is a bit scratched, can be seen in the pictures, but I already started the trip like that so it is not going worse. The speedometer lost the main button but still works. The kickstand rattles a bit, only noise but still works perfect. Mudguards had some cracks I repaired with tape, but structurally they are fine. That is all about it.

1993 Trek 820 mtb

This is the bike Susanne has been using for the trip. I overhauled it completely before the trip and installed a long list of touring components. Size is a 20″ or 50cm, which should suit someone between 1.60m (5ft 3) and 1.80m (5ft 9). In the pictures it is setup for Susanne at 1.77m.

Front rack (Tubus Cosmo) and bracket for handlebar bag (Klick Fix) are NOT included (although could be purchased separately).

Bike will be available in the last week of November in El Chaltén, Argentina.

Price: 250 USD or 75000 ARS

Specs:

  • Frame: Tange MTB chromoly steel, Trek original fork
  • Drivetrain: mix of Shimano components, mostly Alivio and Acera. 3×8. Crankset is 42-32-22 and cassette 11-34, giving a low gear of 16.9 gear-inches, great for touring
  • Rear rack Tubus Expedition
  • Front wheel: Andra 40 rim, 36 spokes, Deore hub with Schwalbe Mondial 2.1 folding tire. Indestructible
  • Rear wheel: Andra 40 rim, 36 spokes, Deore LX hub with Schwalbe Mondial 2.1 tire. Indestructible
  • Long list of accesories: bottle cage, bell, speedometer, Trek long bar-ends, chainguard, ESGE kickstand, SKS mudguards, dynamo lights, big B&M mirror…

Bike is in great shape. I have changed the chain every 2000 kms so cassette and crankset have still plenty of life left. Step-through frame makes it easy to mount and dismount even when heavy loaded.

Known issues: the dynamo lights only work at the back. It is probably just a connection or a burnt bulb in the front, but I’ve never bothered to check it. So it is sold as broken. That is all about it.

Tag along “Fun Trailer”

This is the child trailer our kids have been using. The brand is “Fun Trailer”, I believe German, and it can be attached to the seatpost of any bike (better not carbon, of course :-)). It will suit kids of age 4 to 7, depending on their size. Ours are 3 and 5 and using it without issues, but they are quite big for their age.

The tag-along will be available in the last week of November in El Chaltén, Argentina.

Price: 60 USD or 18000 ARS

Specs:

  • Frame: Steel, it can be folded in the middle for easy transport in a car
  • Drivetrain: it was originally single speed. I have added a quality 8 speed Hg-50 Shimano cassette as potential spare for our bikes. It is in nearly new condition. Chain is the original wide one from the single speed.
  • Rear rack Avant Velo, can be modified to suit also 22″ and 24″ bikes
  • Rear wheel: double wall rim, 36 spokes, Shimano hub with with Schwalbe Big Ben Plus 2.15 tire, puncture resistant.
  • Long list of accesories: bottle cage, bell, chainguard, mudguard,…

Tag-along is in great shape, a great way to go out with your kid in a safe way. Rear battery light NOT included.

Known issues: the saddle has a hole made in a transport by bus. I fixed it with tape. That is all about it.

Other stuff I am selling:

We will be selling other small items, pictures will follow, but for the time being here is the list:

-Ortlieb Ultimate 5 handlebar bag with Klickfix adapter. This is the previous model, the current one is the 6. Not so easy to open and close, but still a good bag with loads of room. Included extra map carrier, worth 15 USD. Warning: handlebar adapter only for 25.6mm diameter. For 31.8 you would need to buy an adapter. Price 50 USD or 15000 ARS

-Tubus Cosmo stainless steel rack. Super strong, rated up to 40kg. This is a rear rack, I just mounted it to the front. Price: 110 USD or 32000 ARS

-20″ spare tire, unused. We brought it as spare, never used. Schwalbe Road. Price: 10 USD or 3000 ARS
